Mrs Katherine Wong initiated to start the Fathers group in late 2007 when she noticed that while the PSG had many active and committed members, many of them were women. Believing that a father’s active involvement was equally important in children’s lives, and with the strong support of the Principal, Mdm Kew Mee Ying, Katherine approached Mr Jason Wong to head the father’s group.
The group, Fathers@SHPS, was formed in 2008. Under Mr Jason Wong and his dedicated team, including Mr Tio Chong Heng, Mr Eric Chan and Mr Lee Kwok Cheong, Fathers @ SHPS grew from strength to strength. Fathers@SHPS organises events for fathers to bond with their children and equip them with “fathering” skills almost every month like “Sleeping with the fishes” at Underwater World Sentosa and the Amazing Race.
They have been very successful and has become a model for other schools in setting up fathers’ groups of their own. It has served as the inspiration for the now-popular national programme, Dads for Life.
